EMDR

Are you struggling with unexplained fear and panic? Do you have  internalized  negative beliefs about yourself that you can’t seem to change? Do you find yourself avoiding  people, places or experiences that cause you emotional or somatic distress? Do you struggle managing addictive behaviors that are impacting you in a negative way?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) uses a mind/body approach to uncover, reprocess, and heal from past distressing events. Often these traumatic or upsetting events have shaped our poor perceptions of self in dysfunctional ways. In session, we explore not only how you view yourself, but  how the brain and body has stored that information, and how we might challenge our bodies and minds to reprocess some of those old experiences and beliefs.

During EMDR therapy sessions you revisit traumatic, distressing or triggering past memories in brief doses while you also attend to some form of bilateral stimulation (e.g. eye movements, tapping, audio stimulation). This dual attention allows for  “exposure” to those distressing memories and the unblocking of the associated emotions and somatic experiences, bringing relief.

Topics often addressed in EMDR:

  • PTSD

  • Panic Attacks

  • Phobias

  • Depression

  • Addiction

  • Performance enhancement (public speaking, sports performance, occupational performance)
